WHAT IS The ASR INITIATIVE
A thought leadership development programme for young Muslim activists.
Inspired by the divine guidance and wisdom found present in the short yet profound chapter of the Qur'an, Surah al-Asr.
We discuss and explore key conversations that shape our activism today, impart valuable principles, and work hand in hand with active Muslims to help shape their vision and strategies.
The Programme

The bread and butter of the programme consisting of five intensive seminars taking place on Sundays between 10am and 4pm.

We delve into key discussions which will enable Muslim activists to navigate the context of this world whilst maintaining true to their principles.

Get to know, connect and learn from the experiences of other leaders within your cohort encouraging one another to the truth.

Revelation.
Grounding all of our goals, principles, strategy and direction from what Allah has revealed to us through the Qur'an and our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
We delve into our deepest motivations by discussing what it really means to believe there is none worthy of worship except Allah.

Our context is constantly shifting and changing. Factors surrounding a Muslim's livelihood and call to Islam are becoming increasingly complex.
We must strive to understand our limitations, our challenges, as well as the narratives and discourses that shape our present and
future.

Our determination and steadfastness in upholding the truth in the face of adversity is a characteristic we must all strive to revive.
Bringing this back to the fore and realising the onus upon us to have the courage to call towards Allah has never been so important than it is today.

We get underway with our induction in early October of 2023. As the first session of the programme, you have the chance to get to know the outline of the programme, meet the Asr Initiative team & facilitators, as well as get a chance to network with your cohort. This session will provide key information, what to expect from us, as well as what we expect from you.

Seminar 1 — Our Purpose
15th October 2023
Our first seminar delves into the concept of the self and potential for (dis)orientation towards ideologies, deities, and things other than Allah. We start with the most fundamental aspect of our development as Muslim leaders, what is our most central purpose? How developing an introspective personality and Allah-centric view of the world, can help us re-align with our ultimate goal.
Seminar 2 — Our Mission
22nd October 2023
The Prophets ﷺ have given us clear guidance and direction, but how do we apply their models to the reality we live in today? We explore this in our third seminar, alongside discussions around practical strategies and mindsets with regards to dawah, activism, and our wider mission.
Seminar 3 — Understanding Discourses
12th November 2023
Moving onto the Reality aspect of development, we discuss how ideas form and propagate across society over time. This requires deep analysis and understanding in order for Muslim leaders to be able to represent their faith authentically and succeed in that representation. We discuss the key discourses affecting Muslims today and explore how we can best navigate them moving forward.
Seminar 4 — Understanding Power
19th November 2023
Securitisation, reform, and empowerment are the three major discourses confronting Muslims in the West. We learn the significance of these discourses and how the narrative can be shifted through understanding power and analysing various instruments for impactful change.
Seminar 5 — Our Resolve
10th December 2023
A hopeful and inspirational concluding seminar discussing what it truly takes to be a Muslim leader. How resolve driven prophetic activism is the single most important benchmark we must all aspire toward, including strategies & discussions on revival, dawah and steps moving forward.
